Introduction to Josie Sebald

Hello everyone, my name is Josie Sebald. I am a transferring sophomore at MSU and I plan to major in Games and Interactive Media. I enjoy playing video games, hanging out with my friends, drawing, watching TV, and listening to music. My dream is to be an animator for a video game company, Disney, or Pixar. I have a cat and three dogs (two Chihuahuas, one Havanese/Toy Australian Shepherd), one brother, and two sisters.

The part of this class that I am most excited about is the fourth blog post, which is comparing two websites. I’ve always found comparison very easy and fun, so it should be an easy assignment for me. What I am not excited about, however, is recording a podcast. I get very nervous about giving presentations and recording my own voice, so it’ll be interesting to see how that plays out.

I have always thought online classes were very difficult, and they are definitely a lot harder than going to class in person (personally, I learn best when education is hands-on). However, there are advantages to having online classes. For instance, some classes are asynchronous, so students don’t have to worry about meeting at scheduled times, but it can also be hard to stay motivated. If students don’t have time management skills, it can be really easy to fall behind. It’s also hard to focus when students are in their own house, as there are many distractions such as video games and family members.

  1. Hi Josie, thanks for your thoughtful blog post! It’s great to hear that you are coming to this class with an interest in gaming and interactive media. As I mentioned on the first day of class, there is a LARGE digital humanities community at MSU, and I know that there is a group of gaming/game design folks out there that you should definitely meet. Check out the Digital Humanities website, https://digitalhumanities.msu.edu/ to learn more! There are also some great events planned throughout the year, so be sure to join the email list! I look forward to hearing more about how your interests intersect with this course. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help along the way
